TRIP ITINERARY

Upon arrival, the 2Wheel Epix team will greet you at the airport and take you to your accommodation, where you’ll have time to set up your bike. Depending on your arrival time, we’ll start your adventure with a leisurely stroll through Cusco’s stunning historic center. Soak in the charm of its cobbled streets, vibrant plazas, and rich cultural heritage as you ease into the rhythm of your mountain biking journey.

  • Accommodation: Hotel in Cusco

Cusco was, and is still in many ways, the capital of the once-great Incan civilization and is still full of ruins, footpaths, and whispers of the Incan people. The city exudes an energy that’s incomparable to any other place in the world, and you can feel it the minute you step foot in this magical city.

Today we’ll begin with a quick orientation in one of Cusco’s cafeterías, followed by a brief bike check to ensure everyone’s ready to start MTB riding in Peru!

Then we’ll be hitting the incredible singletrack mountain bike trails of Cusco for a half-day ride. You’ll get a chance to acclimate and gradually settle in while having fun on the trails, which pass along old royal Incan roads and are full of jumps, drops, berms and other incredible features. After that, we’ll refuel with a delicious Cuscueñen lunch before ending the day with a final sunset lap.

  • Distance:  12.5 km /  7 miles
  • Max Elevation:  3500m  / 11,500 ft

On the second day of our Mountain Bike Tour in Peru, we’ll dive into a classic Cusco ride in the breathtaking Lares Valley. We’ll start with a hearty breakfast, then drive into the Sacred Valley to reach the charming town of Calca. From there, we’ll ascend into the Andes, climbing high along ancient singletrack trails that have existed for thousands of years but have only been traversed by mountain bikes for the past two decades.

Along the way, you’ll be immersed in the local landscape, with sightings of llamas, alpacas, and villagers going about their daily lives in this truly spectacular region. This ride serves as a warm-up, allowing you to acclimate to the altitude, get a feel for Peru’s unique terrain, and connect with fellow riders.

After a late lunch, we’ll head to the town of Urubamba, where we’ll settle in for the next four nights.

  • Distance:  19 km /  12 miles
  • Max Elevation:  4200m  / 14,000 ft
  • Ascent:  250 m / 800 ft
  • Descent:  2750 m / 9,000 ft
  • Accommodation:  Hotel in Cusco

The Sacred Valley was the agricultural center of the Incan empire and the fertility of this Valley was how the Incans were able to produce enough food to feed hundreds of thousands of people; and this day will be dedicated to understanding the Sacred Valley and riding some of its most original footpaths.

So on this day we will start the day visiting the Moray ruins, which were theorized to be an agricultural laboratory for the Incas which they used to modernize there, then we will hop on our bikes and do 3-4 laps on the beautiful Maras trail system. Each one of these mtb trails has about 3,000 feet of vertical descent in 4-6 miles and takes us right through the heart of the Sacred Valley’s most significant farming areas. We will then stop for another fantastic, but late lunch before we set off for yet another epic sun-set lap!

  • Distance: 19 km /  12 miles
  • Max Elevation:  3500m  / 11,500 ft
  • Ascent 250 m / 800 ft
  • Descent 2750 m / 9000 ft
  • Lodging: Hacienda in Urubamba
  • Location: Urubamba

For our final day of riding in the Urubamba area, we’ll return to the Chinchero riding zone, where we rode on Day 8. However, today we’ll be exploring new trails, with the possibility of revisiting one that you may have seen the day before. The highlight of the day will be the Chinchero route—an ancient pre-Incan trail that also holds a special place in modern mountain biking history. It was one of the first trails to be ridden by mountain bikers back in the 90s, and it remains a classic.

Clients will head back to their lodging in Urubamba to enjoy some delicious food for one last night in the beautiful Sacred Valley.

  • Distance: 19 km / 12 miles
  • Max Elevation: 4300m / 14,000 ft

Day 6: Rest Day in the Sacred Valley.

This is a great day for clients to sleep in, do some yoga, and recuperate from the endless amounts of fun had on the past couple days of riding. Urubamba is one of the old Inkan cities that existed before the arrival of the Spanish, and this will be the day for clients to go explore a little bit. If clients would like to plan a guided tour of ruins, cooking class or any extra curricular activity we can help plan something for you or simply just steer you in the right direction.

  • Location: Urubamba
  • Lodging: Hotel in Urubamba
  • Meals Included: B,L Snacks, Apres Beer

Day 7: Other Side and Peroninlloc

The Otherside Trail, as the name suggests, is on the other side of Moray! We’ll load up the vehicles and head back to the Moray and Maras region, where you rode on Day 3—but this time, you’ll be dropping into a whole new adventure on “the other side.”

These trails, recently developed in the last few years, offer an absolute blast—fast, flowy, and packed with stunning scenery. They’ll give you a fresh perspective on the Sacred Valley, revealing yet another of its many breathtaking faces.

  • Distance: 36 km / 22 miles

  • Meals Included: B,L, Snacks, apres Beer

You will have just woken up in the ancient city of Ollantaytambo, which still lies on its original foundation, built by the Inkans in the 1400’s; and today you will be tackling the mystical trail of Patacancha. This is yet another ancient trail that is part of an Incan highway that theoretically would take you from the Amazon forest all the way to the city of Cusco, snaking its way up and down the vast valleys of the Vilcanota mountain range. But we will start our ride at a staggering 14,500 feet and descend on three different trails all the way to the town of Ollantaytambo. On this trail we will run into llamas, alpaca, indigenous communities, epic views and mind blowing singletrack.

The Ancient Fortress of Machu Picchu is one of the 7 wonders of the world and we highly recommend our guests take the opportunity to visit the site.

Clients that have chosen to go to Machu Picchu will get up at 7am and drive to Ollantaytambo to catch the train to Macchu Picchu, they will arrive at Aguas Calientes and be taken up to Machu Picchu bus (30min). From there you will visit Machu Picchu for 2 hours, have some time in Aguas Calientes to eat lunch, buy some souvenirs, and then board the train back to Ollantaytambo. The whole day takes about 8 hours and can be a little bit tiresome, but we highly recommend you take the opportunity to see the grandeur of this impressive historical site.

You will then be picked up by 2Wheel staff at the train station and taken back to their accommodations in Ollantaytambo where they will find their bikes and all their personal gear as well. This will be our final morning waking up in Ollantaytambo. Today, we’ll head back up to where you started the Mega Avalanche, but this time, we’ll veer east toward the PataLares to Lares Epic. The first trail, PataLares, offers a spectacular 1,000-foot traverse before a thrilling 4,000-foot descent into the quaint town of Lares where we will stop in the hotsprings for an hour or so!

After the descent, we’ll load up the magic bike bus and head back up to nearly 15,000 feet to tackle the infamous Lares Trail. This ancient trail, used for thousands of years as an agricultural route in and out of the Sacred Valley, has only been discovered by mountain bikers in the last 20 years. IS THIS TRIP FOR YOU?

Our 12-day Mountain Bike Tour Peru is built for intermediate + to advanced riders. This Peru Mountain Bike holiday is all shuttle rides that feature rocky, semi-technical and long downhill trails. What we mean by that is all the trails have technical sections, large rock gardens, and other obstacles, but for the most part are rider friendly and can be ridden at the pace of any intermediate to advanced mountain biker.

What is so impressive about this mtb vacation is that the singletrack trails are all agricultural and animal (llamas, alpaca and sheep) trails that have been used by the indigenous peoples for thousands of years. These trails were built almost before the invention of the wheel, but it seems the Incan peoples were able to see the future, because the trails are a mountain biker’s dream come true.
