This Mountain Bike Clinic takes place in the Oaxaca Valley. Tucked away in the incredibly diverse Sierra de Madre mountains, it is slowly becoming one of the world’s best mountain biking destinations, and it’s understandable why. Oaxaca is surrounded by Mexico’s most mountainous regions, home to over 24 different indigenous peoples, ridden with Aztecan ruins, overflowing with farm fresh cuisine, and is home to thousands year old singletrack trails.

The flow of the mountain biking in Oaxaca paired with the deliciousness of the food and the diversity of its people will leave mountain bike travelers begging for more!

Guests will be welcomed at the airport by the 2Wheel staff, and will be taken to their accommodation to build their bike and get settled in. There will be a brief orientation for your upcoming Mexico mountain bike trip, then clients will have the opportunity to discover the city of Oaxaca and get ready for their epic guided Oaxaca mountain bike trip!!

Our mountain bike vacation Oaxaca must start with getting to know the stunning, yet quaint city of Oaxaca. This town is absolutely magical, filled with incredible art, farm fresh food and wonderful people; and will spend the first day in the city! We will do a street art tour / city tour to teach the clients about Oaxaca’s history, culture, people, and socio economic situations.

The street art tour will lead us to the ancient and gorgeous Llano park where we will hold our first flat ground lessons. Here we will assess clients skills and get a real feel for the group’s needs, then we will have our first Oaxacan lunch before we head out for some local laps and take our skills to the trail! This day the clients will see so much of the gorgeous city of Oaxaca and really develop a base for the rest of their trip.

This morning depart Oaxaca City for our first of three days riding at La Cumbre Ixtepeji. Clients will pack their bags for 2 nights and leave unwanted items in their bike bag. We will be at your hotel at 8:30 to have breakfast, load up the van and head out to ride!

Oaxaca’s mountain bike scene has been blowing up for the past decade, and at its heart is Ixtepeji Mountain. The Ixtepeji mountain is a 10,000ft mountain that is covered in native pine and insidious trees and is held together by a soft and loamy soil that is picture perfect for mountain biking.

We will drive 1.5 hours to Ixtepeji, then do some laps on the flow lines, ride the famous warmup trail, The Bat, and then practice more flatland skills before we have lunch. After lunch, we take our new skills to the trail and ride epic singeltrack until dark!

This morning, you have the option to arise early and hike to a spectacular viewpoint and watch and unforgettable sunrise. over the cloud forests of Oaxaca — a not miss activity!

Today will be our third day of riding in a row, and we will be tackling some of the bigger and more technical MTB trails of Oaxaca, so make sure you eat a good breakfast. This is also the day were we will be practicing all the skills that we have been learning and during lunch we will have a little debrief about the skills that we have practiced and learned in the past 2 days.

Today will be our 4th day of riding and we will be tackling one of the most epic routes in all of Latin America — the Ixtepeji to San Pablo Travese. This epic 20 mile ride takes us from 10,000 feet, at the top of Ixtepeji, and drops us down all the way to the center of Oaxaca. We will have 2 15-minute hike-a-bike sections, 2 15 to 30-minute pedal climbs and 4 different descents. We will pass through 3 different indigenous communities and then end this epic ride with a delicious lunch down in town. Before we ride though we will do a quick debrief of the days before and discuss what skills we want to focus on.

Following our epic day of riding, we return to Oaxaca City.

Today is dedicated to rest and cultural learning.

The state of Oaxaca is an absolute explosion of culture and it would take years to familiarize yourself with all the different food, mezcal, natural wonders and ruins that riddle this beautiful area.

We spend the morning at Hierve Agua, a natural spring that is full of beautiful, spring-filled, terraced pools,  and a secret waterfall.  Then we are off to one of Oaxaca’s most famous and delicious Mezcal distilleries for lunch and an afternoon of delicious mezcal tasting.

This evening, enjoy more time to discover amazing Oaxaca City.

Today you will ride trails from the city and discover more of Oaxaca via the bike. Then you will go ride the epic town laps outside of Oaxaca before have a delicious lunch down in town. This is the perfect way to wrap up your trip in Oaxaca and really end your trip in the heart of Oaxaca.

Our Mountain Bike Tour Mexico is built for intermediate to advanced riders. The mountain trails in Oaxaca are a mountain bike dream come true, fast, flowy, moderate tech and littered with natural features; the Oaxaca trails are deep canals that mimic bobsled tracks and make bikers feel like they are in star wars (seriously). Bikers can expect to ride roots, rock gardens, drops, jumps and steeper sections, but the majority of the trails are flowy and handbuilt for biking. 


The mtb trails in Oaxaca are very friendly for intermediate riders and can be ridden at the pace of any mountain biker, also their is a large diversity of easy to difficult trails, so no matter if you are just looking for a nice flowy rides or trying to get hardcore, Oaxaca has the mtb trails for you!

FITNESS LEVELS​

Our fitness levels will start at a 1, but that is a 1 for mountain bikers that are active, workout regularly and are outdoors people or athletes.

Level 1: 

  • You exercise at least 1-2 days a week regularly
  • When you bike you bike for an average of 1-2 hours and sometimes have longer riding days.
  • You have the ability to climb at least 600 feet without walking or getting too tired.
  • Do not get over fatigued after only an hour of exercise.

Level 2:

  • Exercise 2-3 times a week regularly.
  • Bike for 3-4 hours on an average ride day
  • Can ride for 1-2 hours without stopping and getting too tired
  • Enjoy being on the trail for 4-6 hours with snack breaks, photos and rest breaks.

Level 3

  • Exercise 3-5 times a week regularly.
  • Bike for 3-4 hours on an average ride day
  • Can ride 2-3 hours with only stopping for a quick snack or rest break.
  • Enjoy being on the trail all day and enjoy long missions that are physically demanding.

Level 4

  • Exercise 5+ days a week regularly.
  • Bike 3-4 hours on an average ride day.
  • Can ride multiple hours without stopping
  • Look forward to all day rides that are very physically demanding.

Skill Levels

Intermediate: 

  • Intermediate riders have been riding at least 2 years and are confident on their bike. 
  • Own their own bike and ride 2-3 times a week. 
  • Are beginning to ride longer, steeper trails and more obstacles. 
  • Feel comfortable on singletrack trails.
  • Ride at your own pace, do not tackle all obstacles, and do not do jumps or drops.


On our trips Intermediate riders will generally push themselves outside of their comfort zone and will leave their mountain bike vacation a better rider. These mountain bike trips are a perfect way for intermediate riders to step up their riding in a safe and controlled environment, with a guide that will help them on every step along the way. 

Intermediate +:

  • Intermediate + riders have been riding for 3+ years, are very confident on their bike. 
  • Ride 3-5 times a week 
  • Are riding most obstacles (rock gardens, roots, steeper sections, small drops and jumps) 
  • Feel very comfortable on singletrack, and prefer singletrack.
  • Enjoy both climbing and descending. 
  • Are ready to take on new terrain geographies and test their skills. 


These mountain bike holidays are a perfect way for intermediate + riders to push their limits, continue progressing their riding level, and is an opportunity for them to get outside of their local riding areas and see what mountain bike gems are out there. 

Advanced: 

  • Advanced riders live to mountain bike. 
  • Ride 4-6 days a week and live for epic singletrack trails.
  • Feel comfortable on singletrack, freerides and any trail type. 
  • Are always looking for new jumps, freerides, rock gardens, steeps, and obstacles. 
  • Dream of riding new and exotic terrain
  • Are comfortable with exposure.


Advanced riders charge into any obstacle with a huge and grin on their face. These trips are perfect for advanced riders to expand their riding portfolio, ride new geographies and become part of the international bike community.
